My partner and I purchased our dream apartment when my good friend and I were in our early twenties.
It was perfect for the two of us.
My associate and I each had a family room and my partner had an office. Then my good friend and I had a baby who took the office. Then my good friend and I had another baby that made us share a room. Then my good friend and I had another baby that made us consider an addition. The addition was put on the side of the house. My associate and I had two extra family rooms and a bathroom affixed. My associate and I were looking at the opening of replacing our whole HVAC component with something greater. I talked to a local HVAC company and they advocated for a more cost-effective solution. Instead I just got a ductless heat pump that works for the three rooms. There is an indoor air handler in each room with a thermostat. So those rooms can be controlled independently from the house. I didn’t have to add any HVAC duct in the new design or add onto our new HVAC. My partner’s room and office are now those spaces. She also is the only one in that bathroom. When she goes on work trips I then turn off the HVAC on that side of the apartment and save money. I never notice a difference in my portion of the home. I only see a change in our energy bills. It was a smarter decision on our part. When my main HVAC goes I might do a heat pump for every room. It is a quick, energy smart, and attractive solution for heating and cooling in my area.
