In my opinion, radiant floors are the most advantageous heating system.
This style of heating offers unique rewards.
While there are radiant systems that can easily retrofit into existing homes by way of electric mats placed beneath the floors, the better option is a hydronic system. This type of heated floor relies on a boiler system. The boiler is typically installed in the basement, heats up water and sends it through a series of pipes installed under the floors. The pipes make up a closed loop and utilize the same water over and over. Because of this, the operation doesn’t draw in and spread contaminants into the breathing air. Hydronic heating is so very clean that it’s often recommended for individuals who suffer from asthma, allergies and various respiratory problems. Plus, hydronic heating is unlike forced air heating in that it won’t dry out the air. There is no need to add a humidifier. The heat from the pipes spreads across the surface of the floor and is infused into the air. Any objects situated on the floor, such as tables and chairs, are warmed up and work to further heat the space. With the source of heat at floor level, the heat rises slowly and eliminates concerns with stratification. The only required maintenance is for the boiler once per year and very minimal. The operation is silent and the comfort is especially gentle. One of the best perks is the ability to set up zone control. An independent thermostat in each room allows customized temperature according to occupancy, preference and requirement. I like that the equipment is concealed under the floors and doesn’t take up space or detract from aesthetics. I don’t need to arrange the furniture to accommodate vents.
