After paying a huge bill for the repair of my furnace, I signed up for a maintenance agreement with the HVAC company.
I realized that the disruption and expense could have been easily avoided with an annual tune-up.
Because I neglected the upkeep of the heating system, dust and other contaminants were allowed to accumulate within the inner workings. This debris settled on moving parts and restricted airflow through the system. The furnace struggled to supply enough warm air to satisfy thermostat settings. Since the house felt slightly chilly, I kept turning up the thermostat. This placed a greater burden on the furnace. The unit was running longer and more often and using a great deal of energy. It was also spreading contaminants into the breathing air and costing me more in utility bills. The maintenance plan includes two service calls per year. A licensed technician will show up at the house in the fall to take care of the furnace and again in the spring to handle the air conditioner. He’ll inspect, clean, adjust and troubleshoot. Any worn or broken parts will be replaced. He’ll change filters, calibrate the thermostat and verify proper operation of the entire system. The process is quick, non-invasive and fulfills the requirements of the manufacturer’s warranty. I can expect far fewer repairs, lower monthly costs and superior comfort and air quality. The air conditioner and furnace should last quite a bit longer. Plus, there are perks to joining a maintenance plan. I now enjoy priority scheduling and no extra fees for overtime service. I also get a ten percent discount on the cost of parts and labor or repairs.
